The Mordens Women’s Institute

The Mordens WI generally meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at Guilden Morden Village Hall (7:30 pm).  We are ladies from the villages of Guilden Morden, Steeple Morden, Bassingbourn, Littlington and Melbourn and our membership currently stands at 24.  If you would like to come along for a taster session or find out more about joining our group either just come along to one of our meetings or call Joyce on 01763 852087

We have a broad range of interests so as well as our formal monthly WI meetings we also have sub-groups such as “Luncheon Club” (which meet at a local pub/restaurant each month) and “Busy Bees – Knit & Natter” (which meet on alternate Tuesdays between 10:00 – 12:00 at the Congregational Chapel).

The current committee comprises:

President:             Joyce Stackhouse 852087

Secretary:             Linda Freeman 853873

Treasurer:             Rachel Tanser 852007

Other Members:    Diana Coleman, Corinne Morley, Marion Cooper, & Chris Boardman

Guilden Morden WI was originally formed in May 1933 and amalgamated with Steeple Morden to become The Mordens WI we know and love today.  For those interested in our local WI’s history we have a scrap book which was originally compiled by Kathleen Goddard 1959-60 and can be loaned out.

About the WI

>> Inspiring Women – Then and Now

The WI is a unique organisation shaped by its members. In 1915, we set out to give women a voice and to be a force for good in the community.  Since then, our members and our ambitions alike have grown tremendously.  Today, we are the largest women’s organisation in the UK and we pride ourselves on being a trusted place for all women of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other.

A WI membership offers the opportunity to meet women in your local area in-person and virtually, to make friends and make a difference in your community.

>> Introducing WI Campaigns

We campaign nationally on a wide range of issues and provide life-long learning and self-development opportunities for women in England and Wales.

Our campaigns tackle issues that matter to women in their communities. From equal pay to climate change, mental health and violence against women, over the past 100 years we have embraced a diverse set of challenges. The WI has brought about real change – and we are just getting started.
