HERON SOCIAL CAR SCHEME

This is a social car scheme run by local volunteers.  The Heron scheme operates in South Cambridgeshire villages in the Bassingbourn area. It is part of CARE NETWORK, a countywide association of village help groups, which is a registered charity.

This scheme offers lifts to Guilden Morden people who need to make an essential journey but do not have access to a car or public transport.

The majority of our requests are for lifts to local doctors, dentists and opticians.  We also help with shopping trips and journeys to local hospitals, if we can.  Accompanying passengers are welcome.

There is a charge for this service, which is no more than the equivalent public transport fare.  The current contribution is 30p per mile towards the driver’s expenses.  The driver also receives a mileage subsidy from the County Council and the Primary Care Trust.

We are always looking for new recruits for this valuable service and enquiries would be welcome from any men and women who might have a few hours to spare each month.

Please get in touch, if you need help, with at least 48hours’ notice or call if you would like to hear more information.
